Everyone needs love. But if there is one mistake a lot of people make in search for it, it would be this — forgetting to give some self-love. It may sound cliche and selfish, but loving yourself first is one of the foundations of building healthy relationships.
Sometimes, you just have to say no. Most people find it difficult to say no for fear of disappointing others and for a whole lot of other reasons. Learning to say no is one of the many ways to show love to yourself. Say no if someone asks you do something you do not want to do or anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. Forcing yourself can suck out the happiness out of you.
Carve out alone time. Schedule alone times and use them to pamper yourself. You can use the time for quiet reflection or to pursue your passions. Treat yourself well by getting a relaxing massage, eating a fancy dinner in your favorite restaurant, watching a movie or a play, and so much more.
Make time for what you love. A great way to love yourself better is to do what you love. While it may sound simple, applying it in your daily life can be a challenge. Your various responsibilities at home, work, and in your other personal or career commitments may leave you little time for anything else. Show yourself some love by celebrating and doing the things that matter to you.
Practice gratitude. Be grateful for who you are and all your accomplishments. Be thankful about things that make you unique even your quirks. Being grateful for everything that you are is a great way to manifest self-love.
Be the first to cheer you on. You face different challenges every day. Recognize your small wins in overcoming obstacles in your path. Give yourself appropriate rewards. This shows that you recognize your own worth and value your accomplishments.
Be your authentic self. Express yourself even if what you say or do does not please everyone in your social circle. It would help to keep in mind that there is no chance that you can please everybody in the first place. Just make sure that you express yourself appropriately to avoid hurting others.
Pick your battles. Avoid wasting your energy on negativity. You may not be able to shield yourself completely from negative experiences and chatter around you, but you can choose how to react to it. Soak up as much positivity as you can and maximize your energy into more worthwhile pursuits.
